The internal drive on my 1040 will no longer read any disks formatted with 10 sectors per track. I can format new disks in this manner and it will read them fine, but not any previously written. Disks that will not run include an original copy of SSI's "Heroes of the Lance" which uses this format. As this must be an autoboot, I can not run it off of my second drive. I brought the drive in to an "authorized service center." They held it for nearly a month, and then returned it at no charge, claiming that they were sorry they held it so long. When I got it home, it still didn't work! I have now brought it to another service center and explained the problem. He's not sure, but he doesn't think that ST Drives are supposed to handle 10 sector tracks (in the same way as tracks 81 and 82 are no longer supported). I figured it was an alignment or timing problem, but this appears not to be the case. Does anybody have any suggestions??? Thanx in advance.
