Don't we already have a replacement for TOS?  MINIX by Andy Tanenbaum.
Yes, i know it doesn't run regular st progs. But, who cares if i want
to play a game i'll boot on the game disk.  if i want to write programs
i will boot MINIX.  Based on my reading of comp.os.minix, MINIX is
infinitely better supported by the user community, than TOS is by Atari.
