Try making the command-key equivalent the value '4'. That's the apple symbol in the Chicago font, so even though you can't get to Suitcase via the command-key anymore, it displays a nice looking apple instead of an ugly box. You have to do an 'Open General' in ResEdit to type the actual value in, since you can't generate it from the keyboard. Actually, it might not be 4, but it's one of those unused low numbers. Use ResEdit to look at the Chicago font to be sure.
