I'd guess that the 386 boxes in late '89 will be easier to run. Though it runs on a Mac, Harry Chesley's HyperBBS was the kind of easy-to-use system (setup time: 45 minutes+-) that could spread everywhere, assuming Mac prices were lower. The comms toolbox for the Mac os should give us ease-of-use for EZ networking software, but the prices won't be as low as 386 clones which will be the backbone of most grass roots efforts.
