Yes, R3 was built under SunOS 4.0 by a number of people.  It wasn't mentioned
in the top level docs because we don't have 4.0 yet.  

Make sure that you read server/ddx/sun/README and set the SunOSMajorVersion
and SunOSMinorVersion configuration parameters in
util/imake.includes/Sun.macros.
