View, CA Lines: 26 Our Computer Facilities folks have installed gnuemacs 18.52 on our Silicon Graphics Iris 4D (OS 3.0). It was apparently done by copying it from one of our Suns and recompiling, with a small amount of hacking the source to get it up and running. We have a couple problems with it. First, starting up emacs results in an "Error in init file" message. This error occurs whether or not the user has a .emacs file. As a result, the .emacs file (if any) does not get loaded. However, emacs -l .emacs does load it, and everything seems to be fine despite the error message! Any ideas? The second problem lies with the terminal characteristics -- in particular, the fact that the Backspace key generates a ^H. We can patch that by setting the keyboard-translate-table in each user's .emacs. I assume that the "right" fix is to get ahold of an iris-ansi.el file to stick in the term directory. Anyone know where I can find such a thing? Also, is there anything like the sun-mouse code for the Iris? Thanks for any help.
