Hence, my Internet address contains a "%" as follows: ljz%fxgrp.fx.com@ames.arc.nasa.gov If you define environment variable USER as "ljz%fxgrp.fx.com", you will get what you want. But make sure this change affects many other commands. The next version of GNUS will have a new variable gnus-user-login-name which can be used instead of environment variable USER or LOGNAME.
