Well, I must say your reactions were a bit overwhelming. I got several direct mails and other people posted here. Some people asked me if I could post more (detailed) info about the machine, I was willing to do that (went to dutch importer), but I was surprised that people at acorn were reading this net AND took the time to post information requested. So, my idea of posting information (not so detailed) got lost. Peter da Silva complained about Archimedes not having an OS. I would say Archimedes has an OS but doesn't look like unix. Everything is done through Arthur and everything is patch-able, you can incorporate your own device drivers (very easily) and most functions can be customized to your own needs. This was the same with the BBC-B (I owned that one, and did nice things with it, I even wrote a sideways RAM RAM-disk). And what I have seen of the Archimedes, at least some things are the same as with the 'Beeb'. If you (Peter) still want to have a UNIX-clone be patient 4.3BSD unix was anounced. By this way I thank Roger Wilson by pointing me the way to eunet.micro.arcorn, I was forgotten this newsgroup. I still don't own an archimedes, I would like to but I don't have the money (yet). I'll wait 'till that day and read everything related to the machine. (OK I am trying to become a developer by asking the importer (is that the right word) if he need developers who like to work for their archimedes!) Herman Adriani. P.S. The archimedes (and every new computer) has a problem related to the chicken and the egg problem. What comes first: the chicken (hardware) or the egg (software). I think that most of you are able to write your own software. And Acorn released all important languages!! -- _____________________________________________________________________________ / \ | Herman Adriani & Alfred Kayser: Computer fans especially from 24 pm to 7 am | \_____________________________________________________________________________/
