What is the Format of magnetic tapes for a Patterngenerator 
Type 3000 (David Mann) controlled via a PDP8 System ?

I have to read/write the Tapes on a MicroVax with a Thorn/Emi Tape.

The only fact I know from my Testtape is, it's 800 bpi.

So here are my questions:
  How can I set the magtape to 800 bpi ?
  How can I determine the Format and Blocksize of the tape ?
  Does anybody know that type of machine  ? 

Any hints are gracefully accepted.
