I needed to apply this patch to get Patch 1 to work on a 750 running 4.3BSD.

I have to check it out on some other systems but as it doesn't do any harm to
include it on a BSD system why not #ifdef BSD it in as patch 2 if that is the
latest patch level. Can we have an official patch from Syd to keep future
patching clean?
