I'll have to disagree.  Altos provides both a Xenix (Hacked Microsoft, as you
said, which is the flunked 5.2) AND a 5.3 for the 2000; I've uname -a and
gotten both (on different machines, of course).  As currently shipping, you're
supposed to have a choice.

Their tech support is an add-on product, and could not sell without what is
being added on to.  As such, it seems that any defect would result, in the
long run, in reduced sales of this add-on product.  At least I should have
been referred to someone who WAS interested in product quality to try and
resolve their problem.

Thanks for the tip.  It turns out that having 2 fd's open to a worknet
pretend tty locks it up.  By polling and taking up ALL of the system's
free time, I can get around the problem... hardly worth it, though,
given that if I'm running more than one user it'll eat the system instead
of just replacing the idle process :-(.

Tho, cu still can't work on the damned thing, then, even if our stuff does.
