I got the file uncompressed and untarred without a problem.  90000
bytes?  Sounds like something choked.  Here's the result for me:

-rw-r--r--  1 jds       1792000 Oct 29 20:12 d1.2-1.3.tar

It took under a minute to uncompress on a lil' Sun 3/50; you shouldn't
have had a problem on a Vax.
