running aegis 9.7.0.3 my experience is that :
1) passwords set under sysV are 8 char "no blanks" (ditto bsd)
2) passwords set under aegis can be verrry long include blanks (sometimes)
   and work quite well in bsd or sysV
i made local rules which the users seem to follow....
alter your password using "passwd" and NO blanks.
i did not investigate in great detail as time did not (and does not) permit.
