Most such cards (e.g. Adaptec 4000A, 4070, etc.) operate "in reverse" from what you suggest. What they do is convert "older" drives (such as St506/412 MFM, RLL, ESDI, SMD, etc.) to operate on a SCSI bus. The UNIXpc is "putting out" ST506 MFM signals and expects a comparable HD.
