BTW, the HiRez mouse has a hard rubber ball, just like the one on my Mac.
I've been quite happy with the Mac mouse since I've put it on a pad, and
although I've checked from time to time, it's never needed cleaning.
The pad also helps the tracking noticeably, compared to a slippery
desk top.  A sheet of paper works almost as well.
