It is compatible with the old Unix awk and runs a little bit faster. A compressed tar file for anonymous ftp is in /u2/emacs/awk.tar.Z on Internet host prep.ai.mit.edu. I think someone has written the new awk extensions and is now testing them, but that version is not yet released.
