How about this for a menu idea:

Keep the menubar at the top of the screen, but also have a way to access the
menu from a window (perhaps by double-clicking on the name of the window).

The menu at the top of the screen will always show the choices available, and
still be useful for those who like it (I do right now, but if I get a bigger
screen...).

The menu associated with each window (the same menu for each window in a
given application) I imagine as a pop-up heirarchical menu.

This does not seem to be a difficult addition to the interface, nor do I
see any major programming difficulties (except for all of the custom WDEFs
out there...).

                  Just my 2 cents.
