I understand the problems of having to buy 2Mbytes of memory in order to
upgrade a mac+ from 1->2 Mbytes. Even though I get 0.5Mbytes extra by doing this
(reusing 1/2 the old boards). I still have to "throw" chips away that can't
be reused in other 1Mbyte (fully populated) macs.

There is a halfway house soln that might work while memory is expensive.
Buy 0.5M simms (if such things exist), use 2 of these in a
2 slot pair and 2 existing 256k boards in the other pair - total 1.5Mbytes
for the cost of 2*0.5M simms.  When memory returns to a reasonable price
the 256k boards could be replaced with 2*1Mbyte giving a 3Mbyte mac+.

Are there 0.5M simms? Is memory comming down? What are the current 1Mbyte
simms prices? Will apple release their MACII 1Mbyte upgrade (turn a 1Mbyte
macII into a 2Mbyte macII) thus releasing 2 1Mbyte simms for my mac+ (ulterior
motive warning is issued on this last question).

Lasty - Why do I have to populate memory slots in "like memory pairs". Is there
a fix for this (I wield a mean soldering iron!!)?
