Just as one example, I need the `~' and ``' for typing TeX source. Since keys like ESC and `/~ have been generally available up to now, they're used---and not necessarily infrequently either. Others may have different opinions, but I think it's a big mistake to take them away. Or move them about in wierd ways... Ever sit down at a VT220 keyboard and try to find the ESC? (I think it's a VT220... I don't like 'em, so I don't use 'em, and hence aren't familiar with 'em.) My editor of choice is 'vi' (no editor wars, please), and for that you need ESC FREQUENTLY. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ William R.
