    When I use 
    XCreateColormap(dpy, win, gc, DefaultVisual(dpy,
DefaultScreen(dpy)),     AllocNone)
    that is what I get:
	X Protocol error detected by server: integer parameter out of range

Try using lint sometime.  You have one too many arguments.
