This occurs whether or not the user is using the console. (2) when DISPLAY is not set, emacs behaves normally. This was not true with 18.51 and X10. Hardware Environment: Sun 3/60, 3/260, and 4/260 using SunOS 3.{2,5}, color graphics (/dev/cgfour0).
