Both, Gordon.  For very long sequences, it becomes important if
there is an adversary who is attempting to model my pattern of moves.

I ran accros this item in the Science and the Citizen column
of Scientific American some months ago.  Perhaps another netter
can provide a more detailed account.

It differs only in its structural relationship, the way pieces of
a jigsaw puzzle relate to each other when they are assembled to
form a big picture.  Other than that, same pieces as the ones in
the box.  I am not familiar with the theory of vitalism.
