"cut" is not necessary. "awk" is a very useful utility, and I do not know if anybody may not have it on Unix, specialy on BSD. But I agree about two facts : 1) sites without Unix machine may have problems 2) columns of 160 and lines of 66 may be difficult to print (we could do it, but with locally developed tools) There is a solution : why do not you post a LaTeX source ? LaTeX is present on a large variety of systems (Unix, VMS, MS-DOS, MacOS, ...).
