The senarios described by Christopher Hassell have long been dreamt of.
It is true that in recent years the technology has evolved. Maybe
USENET provides the uniformity required for such an experiment.

Those who have seen my Linda posting should realise that Linda has
the facility to provide the necessary uniformity for such a system.
A worldwide Linda implementation, with local outsets accessible at
each node. Now that's something I can believe in !!!
