There are a few controllers out there now that support SCSI devices
besides hard drives.  The one I'm familliar with (I've got one in
my A2000) is Comspec's.  When they did their S/W, they did it 
Right.  They use a separate SCSI driver that the HD driver runs on
top of.  They also have drivers for removable media such as
Bernoulli disks (out for some time) and I believe soon, Quarter
Inch Cartridge tape.
