Physics Dept., W. Lafayette, IN Lines: 21 Oh line eater, come here boy! I've just added all the 1.3 thingies (libraries, devices, a few commands etc.) to my usual boot up disk and have run into a problem with the SPEAK: device. I've got an entry in devs/mountlist and I mount SPEAK: along with a few other devices (like AUX:) in my startup scripts. SPEAK: does work, if I "cat foofile > SPEAK:" it will merrily read out the file to me. What I can't seem to do is toggle any of the option - change from male to female voice, change speed, pitch, punctuation, etc. I've tried all the examples (and all the options) listed in the 1.3 (AmigaDos upgrade manual) but I always get the same output! I've tried this from Matt's shell, and a 1.3 CLI, but get the same thing. I use mostly ARP commands and run with a number of things "Rez'ed" like dme, Xicon, ls etc. So what is it that I am missing that is sooooooo obvious? Has anyone else played with it and not gotten it to work? I followed the examples explicitly, i.e. "cat foofile > SPEAK:OPT/f/n" or "cat foofile > SPEAK:OPT/n/p200" from Matt's shell or "type foofile > SPEAK:OPT/f/n/d1/s100" from a CLI - and no dice! Can somebody "hep the boy!" thanks. tlm@newton.physics.purdue.edu
