Assigns are great and useful and commercial applications should be able to use them. and 2. Auto-edit of the current startup chain is about impossible. However, I don't like Matt's idea of simply saying "the user must be able to follow instructions" when those instructions require he learn the CLI, ED, and how to follow a startup chain himself so he can determine where he should add the ASSIGN and PATH commands for a commercial application that requires them.
