I asked Ted Medin about that a few weeks ago -- he is only using single precision (8 bit) arithmetic so the longest packet he can handle is roughly 250 bytes (I forget exactly what the limit is.) I think that's pretty good -- one of the hosts I talk to (multics) won't handle anything longer than the original short (94) packets -- so lets not look the gift horse in the eye.
