In several articles, people have said that when DAs go away in a future
version of the system, they want some way to put several applications in
some easy to access place, like DAs are now placed.

How about using PowerStation?  You can get to about 50 applications with
two mouse clicks under MultiFinder, and about 700 with three mouse
clicks.

Og course, running on a one meg Mac II, I haven't tried this other than
a brief experiment so that I would not make a total fool out of myself
with this posting...
