Using commands such as apply to selection, delete selection, or repairing
  a database across a network or in multiuser mode can cause damage to 
  the database (records that are not completely deleted and cause strange 
  things to happen.)  I found out that this info has already been released
  in technotes but for those of us who are not yet developers no info
  has been passed along.

I will pass along more info as soon as I get the technotes and anyone
  interested is welcome to send me a note.  We got our databased unscrogged
  this morning using the repair tools only to find it damaged again
  from using 'delete selection' in multiuser mode.
