For some reason, in 3.4, custom kernels can crash when you use the serial
ports.  Don't ask me why, but a generic (or nearly so) kernel doesn't
display this problem.  By the way, the problem is only seen in 3/60s, I
think.

Fixed in 3.5 (when did you last hear that one 8^).
