Will 4.0 automount understand 3.5 limitations and vice versa?

If not, has anyone replaced their 3.X NFS from the 4.X source version?
I'm somewhat tempted to put Van's TCP header-prediction and 'secure' NFS
back into our 3.X kernels until 4.0 stabilizes.
