Right now, we have a Vax 11/750 running 4.3+NFS, and six 3/60's. I want to find a box to both replace the 750 and be a server for the Suns. My question: Is anyone using a non-Sun machine as a server for Suns? We thought about a 4/260 or a 4/280, but have a lot of undergraduate use on the 750 that might prove to be a BIG bottleneck (20-30 students doing vi, pi, pc, cc, f77, etc.) If anyone has experiences with a Sun 4 under these circumstances, I'd be real interested to know how the machine holds up! Summary: I want a machine for 20-30 undergraduate students doing things that cs students do (on dumb terminals), and that will serve 6-10 3/60's. Any recommendations?
