If it just said "sequence lost" and not "Xlib: sequence lost (0x%lx > 0x%lx) in reply type 0x%x!" Then you are running and R2 Xlib. In either case, it means that you are running a server that has somehow forgotten to put the sequence number in an event packet. If you are using R3 and can repeat this, please send a note to xbugs.
