A similar, but perhaps more comprehensive, paper is "A Taxonomy of
Window Manager User Interfaces" by Brad Myers, *IEEE Computer Graphics
and Applications* magazine, September, 1988.  Myers is well known in the
user interface world, while Pike is famous for his Blit work, so the
emphases of the 2 papers are slightly different.  Both are good reading.
