Everything was fine until we accidently tried running "xinit" from within a Suntools "shelltool". Of course that screwed up the works and we had to reboot the machine. However from then on, we can NOT run "xinit". When we run xinit, the screen grays over in the normal way, but then the following error messages are printed on the bottom of the screen: X toolkit error: Can not allocate colormap for "Black" X toolkit error: Can not allocate colormap for "White" X toolkit error: Can not allocate colormap for "white" X toolkit error: Can not allocate colormap for "black" None of this makes any sense. Keep in mind that after installing X, we did a "make clean". Could this have removed something important??? Can anybody give us any help ???
