OK, so it won't run on a HP 41C :-)  You can't run emacs there, either,
so I guess it's no great loss.

I'll build a stripped down version and post the sizes. I have a feeling
it will still be bigger than you would like, although I can attribute part
of that to the size of the routines sucked in from later releases of the
system libraries rather than "tons of code providing new features."  I 
can't recall ever building anything much over 200K on any V7 box :-)
