for NCSA Telnet:

The problem turned out to be this: Telnet is available from <ftp.ncsa.uiuc.edu>
or <zaphod.ncsa.uiuc.edu> at Internet address 128.174.20.50. For some reason,
that host is not included in the latest Internet host table posted at
<sri-nic.arpa>. I downloaded it today, just to check. I was not able to FTP
to those hosts, because our FTP server uses the host tables to find the net
address. I was able to FTP to the net address directly tho. I have sent mail
to <postmaster@newton.ncsa.uiuc.edu> apprising them of the situation.
