(For a good laugh, try running stuff -- *just about ANYTHING) in the recent IBM PS/2 Model 30/286. This is clearly *the "PCjr" of AT-clones. It takes a special effort to make something so *totally incompatible with existing AT cards, and I guess only IBM can *afford to put the requisite number of engineers to the task! I think it *must never have been tested with actual 16-bit cards with memory mapped *buffers. that is strange, we have one here, and have tested (and run) it with both western digital 8003E and Interlan 5210 ethernet cards. we also tried a BICC card, but it was an older rev (3.0? they are on at least 5.0 now) and it didnt work. while it is true these are not 16 bit boards, i have not noticed any compatibility problems with the machine. i have run both PC/TCP and LANWatch on the IBM Model 30/286 with no problems (other that the stupid screws on the case. this is *not* one of the "PS/2 take apart with a quarter" machines. and i admit the was the connectors are attached to the motherboard leaves something to be wished for (the same with the model 25). as a side note, we have also run wd8003, ni5210 and DLINK cards in our t3200's running LANWatch and PC/TCP. neither have given us any problems. stev knowles ftp software stev@ftp.com 617-868-4878
