I seem to remember there being some discussion about how to back up
Starglider II, although I didn't read much of it at the time, so someone
may have already mentioned this:

I just bought Starglider II and successfully made a backup using Project D's
"OmniTool," which will copy Atari ST disks.  Since the game disk also boots
on the ST, I figured this might work, and it did (after several unsuccessful
attempts using Marauder II).

Incidentally, my first copy of Starglider II wouldn't boot, so I brought it
back to the store where I bought it, and they pulled another copy off the
shelf and tested it -- it worked fine.
