Sorry.  It's a conference (#2 was in 1988), short for Architectural Support
for Programming Languages and Operating Systems.  More hardware than software,
if I recall correctly.

It's sort of formal presentations of hackery, but people with advanced
degrees aren't supposed to admit that they do weird stuff like this, let
alone enjoy it.
