N.R.Fildes ===== --------- From likewise!uunet!uhccux.uhcc.Hawaii.Edu!bmartin Organization: University of Hawaii --------- I'd stay away from Jasmine. In my experience, they are extremely hard to reach via telephone for tech support. I finally sold my Jasmine drive, a CDC WREN III, and bought a MicroNet. I'd look at two factors: who manufactured the drive, and who wrote the driver software. MicroNet is now selling the CDC Imprimis drive, which has an excellent reputation. --------- From whuts!att!ihlpm!dcn Fri Dec 16 08:35:36 1988 remote from homxb --------- I got mine from Open Mac, which turned out to be a Rodime drive, and for a good price. The first one they sent never managed to boot, but the second works fine. They come with about 10MB of stackware of varying quality and usefulness. I haven't been able to get their backup software to work. I shopped around for awhile before finally settling on the Jasmine. Two year limited warranty over 10MB of PD/Shareware software and it comes with SUM, Redux, Mactree and a whole bunch of demo software. Overall it was a very good deal. I got it from ComputerWare in Palo Alto for around $1250. Hope this helps! Dave Guevara --------- From whuts!att!ihlpf!straka Organization: AT&T Bell Laboratories - Naperville, Illinois --------- I have a Jasmine DD70, and am quite happy with it. (~3 months) Rich Straka att!ihlpf!straka --------- >From ihlpf!straka --------- The noise level is not objectionable. (DD70) The noise is a low-level whine and rushing. However, as I am not a fan of noise, I have a 15ft SCSI cable on it, and it is sitting sideways on a shelf at floor level to make it quieter. The seeks are almost inaudible (much different from 1st-generation stepper-actuated drives). You really have to concentrate to hear them.
