If you recall, although Apple 800K drives "work" with 400K disks, writing on a 400K startup disk in an 800K drive can sometimes alter the data so that the disk can no longer be used to boot a Mac. (This isn't widely "advertised.") Does anyone know *for sure* whether the same problem has been found on the 1.4M drives, or do they "really" work?
