Looks like Bob Braden and Jon Postel are ahead of me. A copy of RFC1009 is maintained on this host (ncnoc) for anonymous ftp but this discussion has progressed while I am at home for the holidays with a slow modem and no printer. Was just applying some 'country' logic which says we have no business zinging packets for net 127 towards the Internet without some bells ringing or buzzers sounding.
