This agreement is subject to approval of the respective Boards of the Parties, their Shareholders and various regulatory authorities." For information, SGS Thomson Microelectronics (STM) is one of the `big three' European semiconductor companies, with a turnover of about $1 billion. It was formed in April 1987 by merging SGS and the microelectronics part of Thomson. It is 50% owned by the Italian Government through STET, and 50% by the French Government through Thomson.
