The man page says that ptrace requests 4 and 5 can be used interchangeably. In practice I find that request 4 will only allow writes to the traced process TEXT or DATA region, and request 5 only allows writes to the traced process STACK. On the other hand the similar claim that requests 1 and 2 are interchangeable does appear to be correct. I am posting this bug report to the net, since it does not appear that Apple has an appropriate mechanism for A/UX bug reporting. I don't think I should have to pay for a hotline call to report a bug. Likewise I don't think the hotline is a substitute for an up to date bug list. Sun (which is far from a model of virtue in software support) provides a free e-mail address for bug reports, and a on line database of those reports for their supported customers. -- Ken Mandelberg | km@mathcs.emory.edu PREFERRED Emory University | {decvax, gatech}!emory!km UUCP Dept of Math and CS | km@emory.bitnet NON-DOMAIN BITNET Atlanta, GA 30322 | Phone: (404) 727-7963
