You think that's a problem? We were just suckered into creating an entire newsgroup (comp.lang.sigplan) so that ACM/SIGPLAN could advertise their (for pay) seminars. An entire newsgroup so that one small faction of the usenet community could make money. And they have the gall to moderate it, and refuse access to anyone that doesn't kick into their kitty.
