If the designs are that similar, then perhaps the solution, as others have already mentioned here, is for the user community to develop a de facto standard NeWS/DPS interface package. Owen Densmore's class.ps might fit here, as would a file (or files) of synonym and compatibility definitions. We have not yet begun to look at DPS, but as developers who desire as wide a range of hardware platforms as is reasonably supportable, it could be a fairly rational (or at least not too irrational) direction.
