It was in the January 1988 issue. Another option is to build the Science Workshop spectrum analyzer described in Ham Radio September 1986. It uses a modified cable TV converter to scan 0-500 MHz and a UHF TV tuner to scan 420-900 MHz. They sell kits for modules except the power supply and cabinet. They also have a tracking generator (0-500 MHz) and a digital center frequency readout module. The prices aren't too bad: Basic Kit (Main and Ramp boards): SW-6006K (Main board kit) $30.00 SW-6006W (Main board wired) $50.00 SW-6001K (Ramp board kit) $20.00 SW-6001W (Ramp board wired) $30.00 Tuners: SW-5800 0-500 MHz cable tuner $35.00 SW-5810 420-900 MHz UHF tuner $15.00 Tracking Generator: SW-5900 (works with SW-5800) $50.00 Digital Frequency Readout: SW-6007 (works with SW-5800) $39.00 SW-6007W (wired) $59.00 For more information write: Science Workshop Box 310 Bethpage, NY 11714 The 3 chip analyzer described in RF Design was said to cost $100.00. For the same price you can have 0-500 MHz (SW-6006K, SW-6001K and SW-5800) instead of 0-100 MHz. -- Dave Turner 415/542-1299 {att, bellcore, sun, ames, pyramid}!pacbell!dmt
