According to Sony, it wasn't Sun! The Sony workstations use a port of 4.3 BSD as their OS - though it does have NFS as well. When I asked one of the developers why Sony went for BSD, I was told it was so that licensing with AT&T would be easier. He certainly gave me the impression that Sony had done the 4.3 BSD port in-house. The name of a company with solar connotations did not come up.
